‘Update your PAN…’: Here’s the reality behind this viral message

A message is circulating on social media within the title of public lender State Bank of India claiming to have advised recipients to replace their Permanent Account Number (PAN) on a suspicious hyperlink to stop their account from getting expired.

“Dear Customer, your SBI Account will likely be expire right now, Please replace your PAN card quantity. Thank You. Click right here…’, the viral message reads.

Now, the Centre’s data wing Press Information Bureau has truth checked your entire message. “A #Fake message issued in the name of @TheOfficialSBI is asking recipients to update their PAN on a suspicious link to prevent their account from getting expired. #PIBFactCheck. Beware of such frauds. SBI never sends emails/SMS asking for personal/banking details”, the PIB Fact test staff tweeted.

On Thursday, a message was circulating on social media claiming to be related to Union labour ministry which was stated to be conducting on-line recruitment and offering unemployment allowance.

“A website http://srbc.in.net claiming to be associated with @LabourMinistry is conducting online recruitment & providing unemployment allowance #PIBFactCheck. This Claim is #FAKE. This Website and Online Recruitment is not associated with the Government Of India”, the PIB Fact test tweeted.

Similarly, the PIB busted one other pretend news associated to the Indian Oil Corporation on Tuesday. “A #Fake letter issued in the name of IOCL is claiming to provide pre-approval for dealership of Indane Gas Agency & is asking for KYC documents. #PIBFactCheck. @IndianOilcl has not issued this letter. Kindly visit ‘http://iocl.com’ for authentic information”, it tweeted.
