2028 Los Angeles Olympics: Cricket’s inclusion authorized by IOC members

The International Olympic Committee has authorized the inclusion of cricket and squash within the 2028 version of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Baseball/softball, lacrosse(sixes), and flag soccer have additionally been included within the 2028 roster after ratification at an IOC assembly in Mumbai on Monday.

However, the vote was not unanimous, with two members voting towards the movement. 

According to IOC guidelines, host cities can suggest sports activities they want added to the Olympic programme.

A six-team T20 format has been proposed for women and men.

“We do not want to see it as a one-off, we are looking to be a permanent member of the Olympic movement,” Barclay stated.

Talking concerning the lengthy strategy of getting cricket included within the Olympics, Barclay stated, “We worked through to satisfy the LA (organising committee) and the IOC to admit cricket into the Olympics. IOC member Nita M. Ambani stated that the inclusion of cricket within the 2028 Olympics program was a welcome addition that had the potential to draw numerous new curiosity and alternatives for the Olympic motion throughout newer geographies on the planet.

Ambani stated, “As an IOC member, a proud Indian, and an ardent cricket fan, I am delighted that IOC members have voted to include cricket as an Olympic Sport in the LA Summer Olympics 2028!”
