Glenn Maxwell eyes Sheffield Shield return after damaged leg

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is focusing on a return to cricket in Victoria’s subsequent Sheffield Shield match towards South Australia after a protracted rehabilitation from a damaged leg.

The 34-year-old has been sidelined for the reason that T20 World Cup in November after fracturing his left fibula at a good friend’s fiftieth celebration in Melbourne, which robbed him of an opportunity to push for choice within the ongoing Test sequence in India.

Victoria coach Chris Rogers mentioned Maxwell was “really close” to returning for his residence state towards Queensland this week.

“I was pretty happy for him to play a bit like Darren Lehmann used to and just walk between the wickets and stand at first slip,” Rogers instructed Australian broadcaster Seven Network.

“But we could not quite get it over the line. There’s a longer term view for ‘Maxi’ as well.”

Victoria’s subsequent Sheffield conflict is towards South Australia from Feb. 20.

Though lacking the Test sequence, Maxwell will hope to affix Australia’s one-day squad in India subsequent month for 3 ODIs.

The ODI sequence doubles as a warmup for the 50-over World Cup in India in October-November.
