Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has disregarded calls to step down from the nationwide aspect, saying he is “sure” he’ll return from a critical leg harm to play worldwide soccer once more.

In an interview with Germany’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung and The Athletic revealed Friday, Neuer, 36, mentioned he instructed coach Hansi Flick he would come again from the damaged leg which has dominated him out for the rest of the season.

“Hansi Flick got in touch, we are in contact. Hansi certainly assumes I will return and I will do everything for that.

“I’m certain I’ll be capable to do it.”

Former West Germany goalkeeper Toni Schumacher has called for Neuer to step down and focus on club football, but the Bayern ‘keeper said “everybody could make suggestions”.

“When the time comes, I’ll look within the mirror, and inform myself the reality, as at all times.

“If I don’t perform, I’ll vacate my position, but I don’t expect that to happen.

“Whoever is one of the best will play. If I wish to play, I’ve to be one of the best.

“It’s always been like that.”

Neuer, who has 117 caps for the nationwide aspect, shall be 38 when Germany host the European Championship in 2024.

Neuer spoke publicly for the primary time on Qatar since coming back from the World Cup, saying the staff had “relatively little support from back home” which gave them the sensation “we had a millstone around our necks”.

“We could have perhaps done with a bit more support.”
