Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has doubled down on his help for ARLC chairman Peter V’landys’ NRL enlargement bid, calling for a 20-team competitors.

“I would also like to see Newtown come back. It would be great to see the Jets in the big league again … they (Newtown and North Sydney) are both wonderful brands.”
Newtown left the premiership competitors following the 1983 season, having struggled financially whereas the Bears departed in 1000.
Both groups have since existed within the NSW Cup competitors, with the proud North Sydney membership’s officers being vocal of their bid for an NRL return.
