Despite season of setbacks, star half given ‘keys’ to steer Roosters to unlikely finals berth

NRL 360’s Braith Anasta questioned if Walker’s inclusion was a shock to anybody else.

“He’s had a tough year. Obviously he got dropped, come up with that knee injury but he will return. Are we surprised by this?” Anasta put to the panel.

“I’m not surprised given as pear shaped it’s been for the Roosters and when things were at their lowest, we started to hear out of the club that as soon as Sammy Walker is fit and ready to go again, he is being handed the keys to the team,” James Hooper replied.

“He is allowed to play both sides of the field and we are going to hand control over to the dimiunitive playmaker.

“He’s been strong in a couple of games in NSW Cup for North Sydney and I’m sure he’ll give a good account of himself against the Tigers.”

While the early season sacking was a shock, Walker hadn’t precisely been at his greatest throughout the Roosters 3-3 run to start the 2023 marketing campaign.

“They did drop him and it was a contentious one at the time. Do we expect him to be back at his best?” Anasta mentioned.

“When he first came into the NRL and shot himself out of a cannon, he was playing full field and he was basically allowed to use some of his trick shots and play that ad lib style that suits him.”
