‘He will never be forgotten’: Marty Taupau pays tribute to uncle who drowned attempting to save lots of strangers

A person who drowned at a Sydney seashore on Saturday whereas attempting to save lots of two strangers has been recognized because the uncle of NRL star Marty Taupau.

Father-of-six Talitiga Taupau is being remembered as a hero after swimming right into a rip at Shelly Beach in Cronulla in a bid to save lots of the struggling swimmers, 9 News reported on Sunday night.

While one swimmer aged in his 20s made it again to the shore, Mr Talitiga and one other swimmer had been discovered unconscious and had been pulled from the water by lifesavers.

Mr Talitiga couldn’t be saved, whereas the opposite man, who was in his 40s, is in a essential situation after being underwater for 3 minutes and has been taken to St George Hospital for remedy.

The 44-year-old was the uncle of Taupau, who was driving to Brisbane together with his household prepared to begin coaching with the Brisbane Broncos when he was instructed the tragic news.

“It’s really sad that this has happened but he will never be forgotten for his actions,” Taupau mentioned.

NSW Police proceed inquiries within the space, and can put together a report for the coroner.

The patrolled space of the seashore was closed for the remainder of Saturday.

This newest drowning incident takes the New South Wales drowning loss of life toll to 14 since December 1.
