‘It’s simply past me’: Tigers chairman responds to Cheika rumours, blasts media leaks

Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis has admitted his frustration over stories circulating of who the joint-merger membership is eyeing off for its vacant head of soccer function.

In the previous 36 hours, Eels General Manager Mark O’Neill and former Wallabies coach Michael Cheika have been reported as candidates for the place.

“We are going through the process at the moment but there are a number of qualified applicants that have put themselves in the picture, we had a board meeting last night and had discussions but there’s also a review going on as well.

“The board last night resolved just to sit back for the moment and allow the review process to go through, because there might be a bit of overlay between the two in terms of governance, so we are just going to sit back at the moment.

“We’ve been warmly humbled by the quality of the candidates and those who have shown interest in the role.”

Cheika has the excellence of teaching in two World Cups in as a few years in numerous sports activities.
