NRL 2023: Gold Coast Titans, Justin Holbrook sacking, Des Hasler, NRL coaches fired, Women in League

Gold Coast Titans proprietor Rebecca Frizelle has laid naked the method behind the Justin Holbrook sacking and subsequent hiring of Des Hasler in addition to her expectations of “four premierships” inside ten years.

Holbrook was launched from his position as Titans coach efficient instantly again on June twenty second, with premiership successful coach Des Hasler named as his substitute inside a few hours.

Speaking with Yvonne Sampson on Fox League’s Face-to-Face, Frizelle stated that Hasler will deliver a “hard edge” to a membership that’s in determined want of it.

“I think it was an honest discussion with Justin. We spoke while we were away and since we’ve been back and I have utmost respect for Justin as does the club,” Frizelle stated.

“He is a very decent man, he is a good coach but we set ourselves a set of benchmarks that we needed to be achieving by a certain period of time and I think that’s about this hard edge we’re talking about as a club, and that’s truly what it was.

“I have no doubt Justin will bring success in what he goes on to do but for us, we needed to make change in our own organisation.

“We needed someone that had a proven track record as an NRL premiership winning coach and the fact that Des has appeared in five grand finals said to us that he was the person that would help get us there sooner rather than later.

“We do (get forgotten) and we often get mistaken for one of those also-ran club but we are certainly not.

“I think that will shift with the appointment of Des but I think Des brings a different lens to the club, he certainly has a very hard edge to him around defence etc. and he’s got great belief to what he’s trying to achieve.”

The ruthlessness of the Titans resolution was criticised, contemplating the membership was sitting in ninth, one win behind the fourth-placed facet on the time (Round 16).

Frizelle nevertheless believed the membership dealt with it “as best as we could”.

“It’s never easy… We were decisive in our decision, we also have an obligation to our club and our board is very aware of that,” Frizelle stated.

“We have an obligation to all of our stakeholders to make a decision in the best interest of the club and we believe we did that.

“He’s got the track record, he’s appeared in the big dance five times and we want to be there and we will be there.

“We’ve made a commitment that’s in our strategic plan that we are determined to bring home four premierships in the next 10 years, which sounds huge. Two for the women and two for the men.

Frizelle also championed for more women to be involved in rugby league, noting the importance of the emergence of the NRLW and Women in League Round.

“We collectively have a focus for bringing women into the game, it’s so important for the growth of the game.

“I don’t understand why you’d leave 50% of the community on the sidelines. They belong in the game, they’ll drive the game.”
