‘Painful and sorrowful’: NRL hails ‘resilience’ of First Nations individuals in Australia Day assertion

The NRL has issued a press release on Australia Day, acknowledging it’s a “painful” date for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals.

Athletes and groups have weighed in on the matter in current days, with Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins in addition to the AFL’s Port Adelaide declaring the date ought to be modified.

Although the NRL stopped wanting stating comparable, the competitors paid tribute to the “enormous contribution” Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have made to the game.

“The NRL acknowledges that today represents a painful and sorrowful day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” the NRL stated in a press release.

“Today, we pay tribute to the resilience and the enormous contribution our Aboriginal and Torres Strait brothers and sisters make to our nation and the greatest game for all.”

The NRL was joined by the South Sydney Rabbitohs who additionally posted on social media platforms

“At the Rabbitohs, we understand that today is a day Australians pause to reflect upon and celebrate the unique qualities of our nation. For many, though, it is also a painful and difficult day,” the assertion learn.
