Sydney Roosters supremo Nick Politis has lashed out at rivals whinging about his membership’s wage cap administration, labelling inferences his membership are dishonest “jealous and stupid.”
It comes after Dragons gamers took a cheeky dig on the Roosters in a video asserting the workforce’s NRL Draw for the brand new season.
In the membership video, gamers acted out charades to guess their opponents for every spherical. Dragons star Jack Bird mimed out a brown paper bag and fistfuls of cash, with teammate Kyle Flanagan instantly guessing the Roosters.
But accusations the Roosters are abusing the cap – or ‘sombrero’ – are nothing new, and Roosters boss Politis is fed up.
He advised 9News Sydney he was irritated: “Very much so, yeah.”
“It’s just jealousy, it’s stupid, you know.”
Speaking in regards to the Dragons duo, he stated: “What do you say about them? They don’t know what they’re saying anyway.”

Roosters CEO Joe Kelly added: “I’m happy for other teams to be looking at us. We just focus on ourselves, at the end of the day that’s all we can control.”
“If others are looking across the fence, they’re probably a little bit distracted,” he continued.

The Roosters are concentrating on Wallabies teenager Mark Nawaqinatawase for a possible code swap in 2025, with the NRL contemplating wage cap exemptions for groups poaching gamers from completely different codes.
A possible rule change may assist Sydney to persuade Joseph Suaalii to return to the membership after his stint in rugby.
Suaalii will go away the NRL for the 15-man recreation in October 2024 on a four-year deal.
But Politis is assured he’ll be again with the Tricolours in 2028.
“Joseph is a good guy, a good kid. It’s sad that we’ve lost him to (rugby) union, but he tells us he’s coming back in 2028,” he stated.
Asked if he could be welcomed again into the fold, Politis answered: “Of course, yeah. Always a Rooster.”
