‘That’s how we’d discover him’: Sattler pays heartfelt tribute to late father in good story

Former rugby league star Scott Sattler has paid a heartfelt tribute to his late father John, recounting the recollections he and his sister had of the good approach they’d search him out within the pub.

John handed away on Monday aged 80 after a current battle with dementia, with a number of members of the rugby league neighborhood recounting their numerous encounters with the all-time nice.

For Scott, he recalled his outdated man’s exceptional singing potential as a technique which he’ll fondly keep in mind him.

“My sister and I, if we wanted to try and find him in whichever pub we lived in, we’d walk down from our unit and we’d just have to listen to where he was singing,” Sattler advised NRL 360.

“He’d always be singing ‘Oh Danny Boy’ or one of those great classics from the 60s or 70s and we’d just follow his voice and he’d be in the cold room or the keg room, whatever it may be.

“That’s how we’d find him. That’s one of our great memories of him.

“His teammates will tell you what a great singing voice he had. He was always singing in the dressing sheds and in the showers after games.”

Sattler additionally shared a message he acquired from former Wallaby Garrick Morgan, son of former Manly nice John ‘Pogo’ Morgan, that he believes greatest encapsulated what his late father was all about.

“He [Garrick Morgan] hit the nail on the head when he sent me a text yesterday where he said, ‘He always made you feel like you were the most important person in the room,’” Sattler stated.

“A lot of the people who came across him, whether it was a fan or some of the patrons that drank in his pubs over the years, they would always tell you the same story.”
