Dragons younger gun Tyrell Sloan has opened up on his embrace with Latrell Mitchell following a disappointing efficiency within the Charity Shield.

Dragons fullback Tyrell Sloan opens up on why he requested a launch final season, the exhausting reality he bought from his Nan and the way he mended his relationship with coach Anthony Griffin. 

“I didn’t have the best game and was a bit upset about it. I’m such a proud person… whenever I put on that Red V I want to represent,” Sloan mentioned on the Fox League podcast.

“I have such a high standard, I put pressure on myself… I just got a bit upset and I built that bond with Trell the week before at the All Stars.

“Just to see him, I was a bit emotional, just to get a big hug, that was the only thing I needed, but I’m all sweet now.

“We spoke a lot throughout the All Stars and throughout the season, he’s always had my back.

“In that moment I was more just wiping my tears off his shoulder if I am completely honest, there wasn’t much said.

“He just said ‘keep your head up, it will all work out’ and eventually you know two weeks later I come out and pull out one of my best games.”

The Dragons bounced again with an enormous 32-18 win of their first NRL look of the 12 months in opposition to the Titans.

“I did request a release through the year, and I’ve put that all behind me now, I am a St George Illawarra Dragon.

“With Nan, she just told me straight, stop being a sook and I am 20 years old now… she’d seen me since I was a kid.

“She said ‘stop being a sook, man up and have that chat with the coach’, we got it done and now I praise Hook and what he has done for myself.

“We caught up, Hook was very open and honest, he said he didn’t communicate with me in the best way and that sort of led to us to not seeing eye-to-eye.

“Me being such a young kid, I probably thought I knew it all and I obviously didn’t, I’m still learning.

“We’ve moved on now and I see Hook as a great coach and an even better bloke.”
