‘Told you have unfinished business’: Blues teaching comeback an ‘option’ for Daley

Former Blues coach Laurie Daley has admitted he’s open to returning to the highest job as NSW Rugby League appears to be like to interchange Brad Fittler after his shock resignation final week.

“I’m getting told there is a push for you behind the scenes to become Blues coach,” Weidler mentioned on Sky Sports Radio’s ‘Big Sports Breakfast’ on Tuesday morning.

“I’m not saying that you’re driving it and you’re responsible for that but there are people rallying support for you behind the scenes. That’s a fact.”

Weidler then pressed Daley on what his response could be if the Blues straight approached him to ask if he was fascinated about taking over the vacant head teaching job.

Daley, who coached the Blues from 2013 to 2017, mentioned it will be an “option” but in addition careworn he was at all times completely happy to assist NSW in any capability ought to the group request it.

Weidler went on to say he had been advised Daley, who solely gained six of 15 video games in command of the Blues, had “unfinished business”.

“As I said, any time people think that I could be of some sort of assistance, no doubt I would continue to try and help,’ Daley later added.

“I would support anyone in the game and New South Wales is no different.”

NSWRL Chairman Paul Conlon advised The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday that he had “not had a discussion” with Daley concerning the prospect of him returning.

“I’d be surprised if he wants to do it,” Conlon mentioned.

“But I don’t know. I do know that we had half-a-dozen people wanting the job straight after Brad resigned – something I’m sad about as he did so much for the organisation. I do have all the respect and time for Laurie, but I don’t have more to say than that.

“What is clear is that NRL coaches won’t be excluded, as had been the case in the past, opening the way for the likes of Ricky Stuart, Craig Bellamy or Ivan Cleary if they want the job.”
