Hubert Hurkacz survived a scare in opposition to #NextGenATP Swiss Leandro Riedi on the Open Provence 13 on Thursday to achieve his first tour-level quarter-final of the season.
In a hard-fought conflict in Marseille, the top-seeded Pole produced a robust serving efficiency within the second and third units to earn a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory on the ATP 250 occasion.
The World No. 11, who’s making his third look on the hard-court match, received 100 per cent (24/24) of his first-serve factors within the second and third units, overpowering the 21-year-old Riedi to triumph after one hour and 49 minutes.
“Leandro can play at a super high level and he started well. It was a battle. He won the first set and was playing really well, but I was just trying to compete,” Hurkacz stated in his on-court interview. “The crowd is wonderful, it’s so good. It is a lot enjoyable.
“I have been training really well the whole year. Everything has been going well. I just need some results, so maybe here.”
Hurkacz will proceed the hunt for his sixth tour-level title when he performs Mikael Ymer within the quarter-finals. The Swede obtained a walkover from sixth seed David Goffin.
Riedi was competing in opposition to a Top 15 opponent for the primary time after defeating Arthur Rinderknech within the first spherical. The 21-year-old, who received two ATP Challenger Tour titles in 2022, is up 9 locations to No. 124 within the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings.
