Kindle e-readers are losing support for these old file formats

Kindle e-readers are shedding help for these previous file codecs

Kindle customers have been requested to adjust to the brand new adjustments for e-book codecs which comes into impact from November this 12 months.

Amazon has despatched out a warning mail to its Kindle customers this week, informing them about main adjustments that can come into impact from subsequent month. The mailer is expounded to the recordsdata which might be supported on Kindle which received’t be out there from November 1, 2023 onwards. “This is a remaining reminder that on November 1, 2023, we’ll begin winding down help for sending MOBI (.mobi, .azw, .prc) recordsdata by way of Send to Kindle,” the Amazon mailer informs.

What this basically means is that the new changes will have an impact on Kindle users who try to use the feature to send MOBI files via email, Kindle apps on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac.

Amazon explains the MOBI is an older file format that does not support the latest Kindle features, so the company is now shifting to the modern formats that will prolong the use of the Kindle e-books that were being used in the MOBI file format. Amazon also points out that Kindle users will need to resend the files in new compatible formats like EPUB (.epub) which will continue to work through the Send to Kindle for Email feature.

So, what happens to the existing content stored on your Kindle in the MOBI formats? Amazon assures that the MOBI documents already in your library and even the other formats will not be affected or removed by this change.

But it is advised that you either convert the MOBI files into the new compatible formats for the Kindle, as the data could eventually be removed from the platform altogether. The company’s mailer also confirms that all the Send to Kindle support for MOBI files will end by December 20, 2023.

There is nothing to worry about with these changes but with less than a month for the deadline, it would be better if people stop using these old formats from now itself. Amazon also gives people the option to visit its help page or even contact the customer service team to get their doubts cleared about this upcoming change.
