IBM, IT ministry ink 3 MoUs to advance innovation in AI, semiconductor in India

Technology big IBM on Wednesday introduced that it has signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with three entities which can be engaged with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to advance and speed up innovation in AI, semiconductor and quantum know-how for India.

In a press release, the corporate mentioned the MoUs will assist the ministry to entry IBM’s experience to construct and advance India’s competency and scale its development mission within the AI, semiconductor and quantum industries.

Under the MoUs, IBM and IndiaAI-Digital India Corporation intend to collaborate to arrange a world-class nationwide AI Innovation Platform (AIIP) for India that can give attention to AI skilling, ecosystem growth, and integrating superior basis fashions and generative AI capabilities to assist India’s scientific, business, and human-capital growth on this know-how.

The AIIP will function an accelerator for incubation and competency growth in AI applied sciences and their functions to be used circumstances of nationwide significance, the assertion added.

This platform would have entry to related capabilities of IBM’s watsonx together with the flexibility to make use of fashions in language, code and geo-spatial science with the intent to coach fashions for different domains as wanted.

In addition to this, IBM can be a data accomplice of India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) for a semiconductor analysis middle. The tech big might share its expertise with ISM on mental property, instruments, initiatives, and abilities growth, aimed toward selling innovation in semiconductor applied sciences comparable to logic, superior packaging and heterogeneous integration, and superior chip design applied sciences, utilizing modernised infrastructure.

IBM and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) can even discover alternatives for working collectively to assist the development of India’s National Quantum Mission by constructing competency in quantum computing know-how, functions in areas of nationwide curiosity, and a talented quantum workforce.

“Semiconductors, AI, and Quantum, these three applied sciences will rework the longer term within the coming years. They characterize super alternatives for our tutorial establishments, startups, and innovation ecosystem. The broader alternative lies in creating a world commonplace expertise pool in India, able to benefiting from the alternatives in quantum computing, AI, and semiconductors», Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said in a briefing.

“Congratulations to IBM and thank you for your partnership with the Ministry. I am glad that in such a short time that the Ministry, IBM and the Government of India have come together and have entered into these MoUs that are certainly part of PM Modi’s vision”, he added.

“This collaboration reinforces our commitment to be the trusted partner for India in enhancing its innovation capabilities. Supporting the government’s efforts in building infrastructure, enhancing human capital and knowledge creation in these three areas of technology will be integral to India’s digital transformation and economic growth,” Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India & South Asia, said.

The plans under which IBM would work with IndiaAI, ISM and C-DAC to focus on skills development, engaging the ecosystems and accelerating R&D efforts in semiconductors, AI, and quantum are envisioned to advance and accelerate India’s innovation in these areas.
