More Than 30,000 URLs Were Ordered To Block In India Since 2018

Blocking instructions have been given for 30,310 URLs since 2018 until March 15, 2023, which embody social media URLs, accounts, channels, apps, internet pages, web sites and many others.

Section 69A of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 provides the federal government the ability to problem instructions for blocking for entry of knowledge whether it is essential or expedient to take action within the curiosity of the sovereignty, integrity and defence of India, safety of the state, pleasant relations with international states or public order or for inciting cognisable offence referring to the above.

As per a written reply submitted within the Parliament by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITy), the federal government follows due course of as envisaged within the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Information for Public) Rules, 2009.

As per the principles, MEITy and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting can problem blocking instructions if the data infringes the provisions laid out in Section 69A of IT Act, 2000, the reply knowledgeable.

Since 2018 until March 15, 2023, the committee constituted beneath Rules 7 and 14 of the aforesaid Rules examined a complete of 41,172 URLs that had been obtained from nodal officers in numerous ministries, departments, and states for blocking beneath Section 69A of IT Act, 2000.
