The IAMAI argued that the TRAI’s proposal to make it necessary for telcos to allow Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) presents a cloth danger to the privateness of Indian residents.

According to TRAI knowledge, there are roughly 1145.5 million wi-fi subscribers and 26.5 million wireline subscribers in India (as of September 2022).

This would require a big overhaul of the present telecom infrastructure, leading to carriers incurring big prices,” mentioned the IAMAI.

In light of these issues, the IAMAI has recommended that TRAI consider providing citizens with an ‘opt-in’ approach as an alternative.

“Giving citizens a choice to voluntarily opt in and out of CNAP services will ensure that citizens’ choices and preferences are put at the forefront while ensuring that their right to privacy is protected,” mentioned the business physique.

The TRAI has referred to as a gathering with cell phone operators on February 17 to debate the standard of wireline and wi-fi companies, particularly across the 5G rollout.
