US tells ByteDance to promote TikTok. It says: ‘If defending nationwide safety…’

TikTok was dismissive of experiences that the Biden administration was calling for its Chinese homeowners to promote their stakes within the widespread video-sharing app, saying such a transfer would not assist defend nationwide safety.

The firm was responding to a report in The Wall Street Journal that stated the Committee on Foreign Investment within the US, a part of the Treasury Department, was threatening a US ban on the app except its homeowners, Beijing-based ByteDance Ltd., divested.

The Journal report cited nameless “people familiar with the matter.” The Treasury Department and the White House’s National Security Council declined to remark.

Late final month, the White House gave all federal businesses 30 days to wipe TikTok off all authorities gadgets.
