Eight individuals who have been aboard a cargo ship that capsized off the coast of Japan earlier this week have died and 9 stay lacking, the Japan Coast Guard stated Thursday.

Six of the lifeless are Chinese nationals and two are Myanmar nationals, the coast guard stated.

The Hong Kong-flagged vessel Jin Tian despatched out a misery sign late on Tuesday evening because it cruised 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of the Danjo Islands within the East China Sea with a crew of twenty-two folks aboard.

All of its crew – 14 Chinese and eight Myanmar nationals – are thought to have left the Jin Tian in lifeboats, however tough seas hampered rescue efforts.

On Wednesday, the coast guard stated 13 crew members had been rescued – 5 by business vessels cruising close by, two by Japan Air Self-Defense Force helicopters and 6 by the South Korean maritime police.

However, eight of these rescued have been declared lifeless after being taken to a hospital in Nagasaki, the coast guard stated on Thursday morning

Rescue efforts are persevering with for the 9 lacking crew members, the coast guard stated.

The Jin Tian had been heading to the port of Incheon, South Korea, when it received into bother. It had left Malaysia’s Port Klang in early December, in keeping with monitoring website MarineTraffic.
