Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez pledge $100 million for Maui wildfire aid

billionaire founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, introduced a $100 million donation to Maui wildfire aid efforts.

Sanchez posted a joint assertion Friday on Instagram: “Jeff and I are heartbroken by what’s occurring in Maui. We are considering of all of the households which have misplaced a lot and a group that has been left devastated.

“The immediate needs are important, and so is the longer term rebuilding that will have to happen — even after much of the attention has subsided,” she stated. “Jeff and I are creating a Maui Fund and are dedicated $100 million to help Maui get back on its feet now and over the coming years as the continuing needs reveal themselves.”

Bezos has intensive property holdings on Maui, together with a 14-acre property he purchased for $78 million in 2021.

The demise toll from the blaze grew to at the least 93 on Sunday, with officers warning the quantity should rise considerably as searches proceed. Much of the historic city of Lahaina was destroyed by the fireplace, in what Hawaii’s governor has referred to as the worst catastrophe within the state’s historical past. More than 2,000 buildings had been broken or destroyed, with injury estimated at about $6 billion.
