Trossi was also a visionary. He backed the Trossi-Monaco of 1935, which was one of the most unusual racing cars of its Grand Prix age. RM Sotheby’s auctioned off this GT for $511,000 in Elkhart, Indiana. The GT’s sale price was no doubt boosted by its association with Gretzky, a fact that you couldn’t miss, thanks to the paint job boasting the hockey star’s famous number 99 on the side.

Antonio Banderas loves cars, and he has a nostalgic attachment to the BMW brand, as the BMW 5 Series was his first car. He has owned a 7 Series too, and he joins the long list of celebrities who are huge fans of the luxury automaker.

Film producer Samuel Goldwyn gifted Brando a 1955 Ford Thunderbird as a token of appreciation for his part in Guys and Dolls. At the time, the new T-Bird was top-of-the-line, and its list price was just under $3,000. Now, this classic Ford has a valuation of around $67,500 (probably more for this specific one, as it was owned by a famous actor).

But, Bradshaw didn’t realize the value of the car, and he traded it after a year for a horse. Regretting that, Bradshaw would, in later years, re-buy the vehicle as a remnant of times gone by. The NFL pro has a net worth of $45 million, and, at one point, he was making $5 million a year in salary with the professional football league.

In 1935, this Duesenberg Model JN was sold, brand-new, to actor Clark Gable, among other high-profile celebrity clients. The most exclusive models from this now-defunct brand were reserved for “top” customers. Gable took delivery of the first JN to roll off the lot.

Later, Gable would send the car to Pasadena, California’s Bohman & Schwartz for some bespoke bodywork. He wanted to make the hood longer to cover up the cowl, and Gable also wanted to relocate the spare tire to the back bumper. The “King of Hollywood’s” Duesenberg would later go up for auction. When you think of Western films, you can’t help but think of actor John Wayne. “The Duke” owned a lot of cars in his day, including this family car—a 1975 Pontiac Grand Safari Station Wagon. It was his last daily driver, and this particular car was modified by famous auto worker George Barris in ’75.

George Barris Kustom Industries raised the roof of the car so that Wayne could get in and out of it without having to take off his cowboy hat. Later, this vehicle would go up for auction in Las Vegas, with everything the same from the seventies except for the carpeting.

While the two were parked outside the restaurant, disaster very nearly struck when Leno’s car, a Lexus, started rolling perilously close to the Corvette. The comedian sprang into action, stopping the car with his hands while Springfield jumped in to pull the parking brake. Thanks to Leno’s quick thinking, no luxury vehicles were harmed.

All in all, around 12,055 of these sports cars, which were beloved by Golden Age actors and actresses, were made. The XK 120 was the first sports car from Jaguar since its SS entered production. Though the XK 120 had a short production run of only five years, it looms large in the memories of classic car fans.
