Apatow, director of “Knocked Up” and “This is 40”, shared his disagreement in an X publish quoting the Academy’s choice reported by a news portal.

“It’s insulting to the writers to say they were working off of existing material. There was no existing material or story. There was a clear box,” he wrote on Saturday.

According to Variety, every awards physique and voting group has its personal subset of guidelines for motion pictures when it comes to which screenplay class they will submit or finally be nominated.

The Writers Branch govt committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences apparently labeled Gerwig’s movie as an tailored screenplay as a result of Barbie and Ken have been pre-existing dolls from Mattel.

Meanwhile, the Writers Guild of America has designated “Barbie” an unique work, and it’ll stay in that class for the upcoming WGA Awards.

Gerwig, who turned the primary lady to helm a billion-dollar film, has been nominated for 3 Oscars in her profession: “Lady Bird” (2016) for unique screenplay and directing, and “Little Women” (2019) in tailored.
